After applying symmetrical voltage to the stator winding of a three-phase asynchronous motor, a rotating air gap magnetic field is generated, and the rotor winding conductor cuts through this magnetic field to generate induced electromotive force. Due to the rotor winding being in a short circuit state, a rotor current will be generated. The interaction between rotor current and air gap magnetic field generates electromagnetic torque, which drives the rotor to rotate. The speed of the electric motor must be lower than the synchronous speed of the magnetic field, because only in this way can the rotor conductor induce electromotive force and generate rotor current and electromagnetic torque. So this motor is called an asynchronous motor, also known as an induction motor.
